Privacy Policy

Daily Britain Media LLC ("we", "us", "our") runs dailybritain.co.uk and the Daily Britain app. This policy explains what personal data we collect about you, why we collect it, what we do with it, and the rights you have over it. Please read it alongside our Terms and Conditions.

1. Who we are

We are the data controller for the personal data described in this policy. We are Daily Britain Media LLC, a limited liability company registered in Wyoming, United States, with our principal office at 1309 Coffeen Avenue STE 1200, Sheridan, WY 82801, United States. We publish for readers in the United Kingdom, and where we process the personal data of UK readers, UK data protection law applies to that processing. We have not appointed a data protection officer; data matters are handled by the contact above.

2. The information we collect

We collect data in three ways: information you give us, information we collect automatically when you use the Site, and information we receive from others.

Information you give us includes: your name, email address and password when you create an account; your email address when you sign up to our newsletters; billing details when you take out a membership; the content of comments, letters, tips or messages you send us; and your choices about marketing and cookies.

Information we collect automatically includes: your device type, browser, operating system and IP address; the pages and articles you view and how long you spend on them; how you arrived at the Site; and information collected through cookies and similar technologies, described in section 6.

Information from others includes: confirmation of payment from our payment provider (we never see or store your full card details), and limited data from advertising and analytics platforms where you have allowed it.

3. Why we use your data, and our lawful bases

We only use your data where the law allows. The lawful bases we rely on are: performing our contract with you, our legitimate interests, your consent, and compliance with a legal obligation.

We use your data to: set up and run your account and membership, and give you access to member content (contract); take payment and manage renewals, refunds and failed payments (contract); provide, maintain and improve the Site and understand how it is used (legitimate interests, and consent where required for cookies); send you service messages such as receipts, renewal reminders and policy changes (contract or legal obligation); send you marketing where you have asked for it or are otherwise entitled to receive it (consent or legitimate interests); publish and moderate comments and reader submissions (legitimate interests); keep our records and meet our legal, accounting and regulatory duties (legal obligation); and protect the Site against fraud, abuse and security threats (legitimate interests).

Where we rely on legitimate interests, we have considered your rights and do not use your data in ways you would not reasonably expect. You can ask us for more detail at any time.

4. Membership and payments

When you take out a membership we collect the details needed to bill you and manage your subscription. Payments are handled by our payment provider, Stripe. Your card details are given directly to Stripe and processed under its own terms and privacy policy. We receive confirmation of payment and the information we need to manage your membership, but we do not store your full payment card number.

Founding members. If you participate in the founding subscriber equity scheme, we collect additional information under the Subscriber Equity Agreement, including identity verification (KYC) information that the law requires before units can be issued. That processing is described in the Subscriber Equity Agreement, which governs the scheme.

5. Marketing

If you have agreed to receive our newsletters or marketing, or you are an existing member and the law allows it, we will send you emails about Daily Britain content, offers and events. You can opt out at any time using the unsubscribe link in any message, or by contacting us. Opting out of marketing does not stop service messages such as billing and renewal notices.

6. Cookies and similar technologies

We use cookies and similar technologies to run the Site, remember your preferences, and understand how the Site is used. This section is the full cookie information for Daily Britain; there is no separate cookie policy page.

We group cookies into three types. Strictly necessary cookies keep you logged in, keep the Site secure and let you move around it; these do not need your consent. Functional cookies remember your settings and preferences. Analytics cookies help us see how the Site is performing and how readers use it, using Google Analytics 4, managed through Google Tag Manager. Following changes to UK law in 2026, certain low-risk analytics cookies may be used without consent provided we are transparent about it. Details of the cookies we use, and how to manage or block them through your browser, are on our Cookie choices page, linked in the footer.

We do not currently set advertising or targeting cookies. If we introduce them, we will ask for your consent first through a consent banner, and this policy will be updated before that happens.

You can opt out of analytics cookies through the Cookie choices link in the footer, and you can block or delete cookies at any time through your browser settings.

7. Who we share your data with

We do not sell your personal data. We share it only with: service providers who process data on our behalf, such as our hosting, payment, email and analytics providers, under contracts that require them to protect it; professional advisers such as lawyers and accountants where needed; and authorities or other third parties where we are required to by law, or to protect our rights, users or the Site. If our business is sold or reorganised, data may be transferred to the new owner under this policy.

8. Where your data is processed

We are a United States company, and some of our service providers are based in the United States and other countries outside the UK. Where personal data of UK readers is transferred internationally, we protect it using approved safeguards, such as UK adequacy regulations, the International Data Transfer Agreement or equivalent contractual protections. Our email platform stores subscriber data in the European Union. You can ask us for details of the safeguards we use.

9. How long we keep your data

We keep your data only as long as we need it. Account and membership data is kept while you are a member and for 6 years afterwards to meet our legal and accounting duties. Billing records are kept for 6 years for tax purposes. Comments and submissions are kept while they remain published. Marketing data is kept until you opt out. After the relevant period we delete or anonymise your data.

10. Your rights

Under UK data protection law you have the right to: be told how your data is used; get a copy of your data; have inaccurate data corrected; have your data deleted in certain cases; restrict or object to how we use it; ask us to transfer it to another provider; and withdraw consent at any time where we rely on it. You can also object to direct marketing at any time. To use any of these rights, contact support@dailybritain.co.uk. We will respond within one month. Using your rights is free in most cases.

11. How to complain

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data, please tell us first at support@dailybritain.co.uk so we can put it right. We operate a complaints procedure and will respond to you. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), the UK regulator, at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113. We would appreciate the chance to deal with your concern before you approach the ICO.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Any change takes effect when we post it here, and we will tell you about significant changes. Please check this page from time to time.
